AC not cooling? Checks before you call

Confirm the thermostat is in cooling mode and the indoor fan is set to auto. Check whether the outdoor unit has power and whether the filter is blocked. If the outdoor coil is packed with cottonwood or dirt, turn the system off before clearing loose debris around it. Warm air can also result from a failed capacitor, low refrigerant caused by a leak, a frozen coil, or a control fault. Do not add refrigerant based on a gauge reading alone. The proper repair includes finding the reason for low charge, checking airflow, and measuring system performance. A service call is worthwhile when the unit repeatedly trips a breaker or refreezes.
